ArtWorks for Milwaukee
ArtWorks for Milwaukee, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides paid, arts-based Internships only for Milwaukee-area high school students who face any of the following barriers to employment: • Underperformance in High School– These students have low GPAs and/or may drop out, despite having the capacity to graduate. At ArtWorks, we teach them that earning a high school diploma is key to finding employment success. • Disabilities– This population faces inherent barriers to employment. At ArtWorks, we teach our Interns to overcome employment barriers attributed to misperceptions about their abilities. • Lack of community connections– These young people through no fault of their own lack access to employment networks needed for success. At ArtWorks, we provide our Interns mentoring opportunities with ArtWorks’ staff, Lead Artists, and volunteer Career Coaches that can open doors for them and increase their chances of employment success. Interns learn traditional techniques in the visual, literary, or multimedia arts as well as highly transferable skills that will help them find jobs in any industry.
